Rivette was a resident of Nole. When her brother died, she she assumed the care of his children, Bud and Margaret. However, before she could return to Nole with the children, Bud was appointed as King of Noland.

As their aunt, she was given a room in the castle as well as an allowance. Borrowing the Magic Cloak, she set out to make her former neighbors envious of her new position. In the process of hastening her return to Nole to do this, she inadvertently wished for wings, which the Magic Cloak granted. These wings she had for the rest of her life, a fact of which she was quite fond, as it gave her positive attention that she craved.
