Laura Makepeace Stephen was born in 1870 to Leslie Stephen and Minny Thackeray. She was declared mentally disabled, and as such, lived with her family until she was institutionalized in 1891.

She is the granddaughter of William Makepeace Thackeray and is the half-sister of Virginia Woolf.

She died in 1945.
