Atticus Finch was a renowned lawyer in Maycomb County, Alabama. He is probably best known for his role as the attorney for Tom Robinson, a black man accused of rape during a time of strong racial tension in the South. Some twenty years later, it is revealed that he holds opinions that may be construed as racist, though he never let them affect his role as a public defender.
