Who Broke the Teapot?! is a children's story that treats a common household accident as a mystery. When a favorite teapot is broken, Mom must determine which of her misbehaving family is at fault.
In the end, we are treated to a lesson of how acting out of anger can lead to damaging things that are important to you.
Mom comes downstairs after hearing a ruckus below, only to discover that her favorite teapot has fallen from a shelf and now lies in pieces upon the floor. She begins assess the suspects: her husband, still in his underwear, sits, reading a newspaper. Her son is dangling from the ceiling fan in the kitchen. Her daughter is working on a recipe. Her cat is tangled up in yarn. Her dog is licking a bowl that once held a prior recipe her daughter was attempting. And her baby sits in a highchair.
The mother yells and hollers, trying to get to the base of the problem, only to learn that each member of her family has a reasonable alibi.
It is only when the reader is taken to "earlier," that we learn that, upon hearing the commotion coming from downstairs, the mother shouts and stomps on the floor, telling those below to be quiet. In her stomping, she shakes the teapot loose from its shelf, where it shatters upon the floor.
